Accused burglar thought he “was home”

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – An accused burglar in Whitley County admitted to investigators he was inside a home, but that he thought it was his own, according to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department. 20-year old Tyler Bowman of Williamsburg was arrested and charged with Burglary 2nd Degree, Menacing and Alcohol Intoxication, according to deputies.

A homeowner along Ellison Bend Road in Williamsburg told investigators that he found Bowman in his kitchen and living room, going through the family’s belongings. The homeowner’s and their children were home at the time. They say Bowman got in through an unlocked door. The homeowner held Bowman until deputies arrived, according to the sheriff’s department.

Investigators say Bowman had a strong smell of alcohol, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. He was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
