A quiet weekend ends with light snow tonight and a colder start to the week
Light rain and snow showers arrive overnight before colder air settles in for the start of the week.
A Pleasant Day Before Changes Arrive
Today finally gave us a break from the gloomy stretch we’ve been stuck in. Afternoon temperatures climbed into the upper 40s and low 50s, and we even enjoyed some sunshine, something we haven’t seen much of lately. But as we head into tonight and early Monday, the quiet weather will take a brief turn.
Light Rain and Snow Showers Move In Tonight
A cold front will slide through the region late tonight into early Monday morning, bringing the chance for light rain and snow showers. Most of this activity will develop after midnight.
We are expecting very light precipitation, with a coating to around an inch possible, mainly on grassy and elevated surfaces. Roads will likely stay just wet at first, but a few slick spots are possible, especially on untreated or less-traveled roads as temperatures dip into the low 30s.
While widespread impacts are not expected, the timing near the morning commute means drivers should use caution early Monday.
Clearing Through Monday Afternoon
The light snow will taper off by late morning, and conditions gradually improve through the day. Skies will clear from north to south, but colder air will settle in behind the front. Highs will only reach the 30s—about ten degrees cooler than today.
Clouds return Monday evening, and temperatures fall into the 20s overnight.
Sunshine Returns Tuesday
A high-pressure system moves in Tuesday, helping to clear the skies and bring back sunshine. Even with the sun, it stays on the cool side with highs in the low 40s. Winds will become more southerly later in the day, starting a brief warmup.
Midweek Systems Bring Rain and a Wintry Mix
Several fast-moving weather systems pass through the midweek period:
A stronger system over the Great Lakes brings gusty winds and warmer temperatures Wednesday, with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s. Scattered rain showers develop along the passing cold front.
Another disturbance arrives Thursday morning, and colder air behind Wednesday’s cold front sets the stage for a possible rain/snow mix, especially north of the parkways. Accumulation looks limited at this time, but this system will be watched closely as details become clearer.
Late Week: Coldest Air of the Season
Behind Thursday’s system, the coldest air so far this season dives into the region. Friday highs: Low to mid 30s. Weekend highs: Only in the 20s. Overnight lows: Teens and single digits
Dry conditions are expected, but it will feel very much like mid-winter.
