A fantastic start to the 4th & heating up into the weekend
Afternoon highs will climb near the low 90s
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – What a beautiful start to our Independence Day across central and eastern Kentucky! Early morning temperatures dipped into the comfortable mid-60s with light fog in a few of the valleys. The rest of your holiday will feature plenty of sunshine and seasonably hot temperatures — highs will climb into the low 90s by the afternoon, with humidity still in a manageable range for now.
You may notice some haze hanging around this evening due to firework smoke getting trapped under a quick-setting inversion layer after sunset, especially in low-lying areas. Otherwise, tonight remains quiet and mild with lows dropping into the upper 60s to around 70°.
Looking ahead to the weekend, we’ll continue turning up the heat. Highs on Saturday will reach well into the low-to-mid 90s across the region. While it will feel hotter, especially with rising humidity, the day still looks dry for most. Sunday brings a slight uptick in moisture, and that could spark a few isolated pop-up showers or storms during the afternoon — though coverage will be limited.
Rain chances will ramp up starting Monday, and this will likely begin another stretch of daily scattered storms into next week. While no severe weather is expected at this time, locally heavy rainfall and some strong storms will be possible with higher humidity and slow-moving cells.
Looking Ahead:
Monday through Wednesday features daily chances for scattered storms and continued high humidity. Afternoon highs will remain near 90°, with lows in the 70° range. Some locally heavy downpours are possible, but no widespread severe weather is expected at this time.
Stay safe, stay cool, and enjoy a beautiful Independence Day weekend!
