A cloudy, chilly weekend with a chance for a few flurries Sunday Night
A cold, cloudy stretch continues with light snow possible late Sunday.
A Cold Start Sets the Tone
Today began on a frigid note, with temperatures tumbling into the upper 20s and low 30s early this morning. A light breeze made it feel even colder as you stepped outside. Despite the cold start, we did manage to warm up into the upper 30s and low 40s this afternoon. Clouds stuck around for most of the day, though a few peeks of sunshine managed to break through here and there.
Tonight, expect those clouds to hold steady. Temperatures will dip back into the upper 20s and low 30s, but thanks to stubborn low-level moisture overhead, conditions should stay fairly steady through the night.
Sunday: Mostly Cloudy, Damp, and Dreary
Sunday starts off mostly cloudy once again, and those clouds will be tough to break. Most of Sunday will remain dry, though pockets of drizzle can’t be ruled out, especially during the day as a weak disturbance approaches from the west. Temperatures will stay cool, with highs in the low to mid-40s.
Sunday Night into Monday Morning: Light Rain Changing to Snow
As we head into Sunday evening and overnight, a cold front sweeps through the Ohio Valley. This will bring scattered showers—mainly light—but as temperatures drop into the low 30s overnight, some of that rain may briefly switch over to snow before sunrise Monday.
Accumulation looks minimal. Most of the region will see nothing more than a dusting to less than an inch, with grassy and elevated surfaces being the most likely to pick up a coating.
While this is not expected to be a major event, a few slick spots may develop on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses for the Monday morning commute.
Monday: Clearing Out, Turning Colder
By Monday afternoon, the light snow and rain will move out, and clouds will gradually begin to thin from northwest to southeast. However, it will feel noticeably colder behind the front. Highs Monday will only reach the low to mid-30s for many of us, with near-40 possible along the Tennessee border.
Tuesday: Sunshine Returns
High pressure builds in on Tuesday, finally giving us a break from all the clouds. Expect sunshine to return with temperatures improving into the low 40s—close to 10 degrees warmer than Monday thanks to a shift to southwest winds.
Midweek Systems: Rain, Then A Possible Wintry Mix
Wednesday brings our next system, a fast-moving Alberta Clipper. This one looks to bring light rain showers to north-central Kentucky, and the Bluegrass region.
A second system arrives Thursday morning and could bring a mix of rain and snow, mainly north of the Western and Bluegrass Parkways. There’s still uncertainty with exact timing and precipitation types, but this will be something to watch closely over the next few days.
Late Week: Much Colder Air Arrives
Behind these midweek systems comes a surge of much colder air. Highs could fall into the 20s by next weekend, with lows dipping into the teens—and even single digits in a few spots. Thankfully, this cold snap looks dry at this time.
