A beautiful Sunday before big changes arrive early this week
Sunny Sunday gives way to fog, clouds, and a soaking rain to start the week.
Sunny Finish to the Weekend
Sunday brought a fantastic break in the weather after several gray, soggy days across the region. Sunshine returned in full force, helping temperatures climb back into the upper 50s, with areas across southern Kentucky even reaching the low 60s. It was a perfect late-November day to get outside and enjoy the warmth while it lasted.
Clear skies will hold through Sunday evening, allowing temperatures to fall back into the mid to upper 30s overnight. Similar to previous nights, the calm winds and lingering low-level moisture will create favorable conditions for patchy dense fog to redevelop late tonight into early Monday morning. Some areas could see visibility drop to a half-mile or less, which may impact the Monday morning commute. A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for tonight starting at 10 P.M. Eastern time lasting through tomorrow morning at 11 A.M. Eastern time.
Increasing Clouds Monday, Rain Moves In Late Monday Night
Monday starts off quiet but could be a foggy one. As that fog mixes out late in the morning, clouds will begin to increase ahead of our next weather maker currently developing across the Plains.
Despite the cloud cover, temperatures will still be mild for this time of year—expect highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s depending on location.
By late Monday night, a strengthening low-level jet will pump warm, moist air into the region, setting the stage for the next big weather shift. Widespread rain develops overnight and continues into Tuesday. Some elevated instability may even allow for an isolated rumble of thunder.
Soaking Rain Tuesday and Early Wednesday
Tuesday looks to be a wet and active day. Rain will be widespread, light to moderate at times, and likely continue through much of the day. A weak cold front slides through Tuesday afternoon, but lingering moisture may keep scattered showers around through Tuesday night and possibly into early Wednesday morning.
High temperatures Tuesday will remain mild—generally in the 60s—before a more significant temperature drop arrives mid-week.
Thanksgiving Week Turns Much Colder
Behind Tuesday’s system, a much stronger cold front sweeps in Wednesday morning. This ushers in noticeably colder air, breezy winds, and highs only in the 40s for Wednesday afternoon.
Thanksgiving Day itself will feel more like late December than late November. Morning lows drop into the mid to upper 20s, and afternoon highs will struggle to get out of the upper 30s to low 40s. Black Friday looks even colder to start, with morning lows in the 20–25° range.
