SCAM ALERT: Don’t fall for “Money Gram International”

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police in Richmond are warning everyone in the area about a mail scam that’s been reported in the region.

Officers say would-be victims are receiving a piece of mail from Money Gram International containing a check in the amount of $1,995 dollars.  The scammers ask receivers of this letter to keep $300.00 for themselves, and mail two different people checks in the amount of $850.00 and $820.00.

Police say the check being sent is bogus, and anyone who tries to cash in on a quick $300, will only find themselves out almost 2 grand.

Officers say the letter is part of a “mystery shopper” scam.
