Lighting of Chanukah menorah comes one one year anniversary of assault

Lighting set Wednesday night in Lexington, other communities

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Chabad of The Bluegrass will be joined by Ambassador Kelly Craft to light a public Chanukah menorah at the Chabad at UK Jewish Student Center, on Dec. 1, the 4th night of the eight-day holiday. The Lighting come a year after a hate-driven ramming attack marred the Chanukah Festivities in Lexington.

“Chanukah Reminds us that we each need to be a Macabee, to fight against hate, and to stand up for the Jewish people,” said Rabbi Shlomo Litvin. “The Menorah reminds us that the greatest answer to darkness is to be a light, and the Rebbe, my mentor, instilled in each of us the knowledge that we can overcome darkness.”

The Ceremony Wednesday evening will also serve as a launch for a Commonwealth-wide initiative to combat antisemitism, which will be announced during the lighting, according to organizers.

The Menorah Lighting is part of celebrations each day of Chanukah, across the commonwealth, including Menorahs at the University of Kentucky, Triangle Park, Summit at Fritz Farms, and the Chabad at UK Jewish Student Center. Government Officials will also light Menorahs in Richmond, Shelbyville, Somerset, Georgetown, and Versailles. Each event will feature a local leader joined by the Rabbi in celebration of Chanukah and the Message of light.
