Laurel sheriff: Inmate tried to bribe witness from jail
LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- A Laurel County inmate is now facing more charges after deputies say he tried to bribe a witness from jail.
The sheriff’s office says 22-year-old Jason Williams of London was arrested last week on charges of harassment – physical contact and criminal mischief – third-degree. Deputies say the arrest stemmed from a reported incident with his girlfriend. According to deputies, the girlfriend took out an emergency protective order on Williams, which means he was not supposed to have contact or communication with the victim.
According to investigators, Williams defied the order, and called the woman several times from the jail. Deputies say that on the three times that the woman actually spoke to Williams, he tried to get her to drop the charges. They say Williams also tried to bribe the victim. According to the sheriff’s office, the phone calls were recorded.
Williams is now also charged with two counts of violation of a Kentucky EPO/DVO; tampering with a witness; and bribing a witness.
