Propane Customers Asked To Fill Up Sooner Than Later
The Kentucky Propane Gas Association said the propane gas shortage was not caused by a low supply of the gas, but due to the lack of infrastructure.
Last year, some Kentucky propane suppliers did not have enough tanks to store the propane and did not have enough trucks to transport the propane to homes quickly enough when the extreme cold hit.
To avoid this problem again this year, the propane industry is encouraging families to fill up their tanks now, before winter strikes.
The industry also hopes families will set up a regular schedule for their tanks to be topped off during the winter.
Dick Brown with the Energy and Environment Cabinet said, "We urge people to work with their supplier and set up a budget plan so you don’t have to pay everything all at one time, and a lot of companies will do that."
Brown also recommended making sure your home is properly insulated to keep the heat in, reducing the amount of propane you’ll need to stay warm.
