Significant Hope For Some Drought Relief

Good Wednesday morning, folks!  It’s another north-south split today, with an 11° difference between the warmth in Lexington and the cooler air under the clouds in southern Kentucky.  Most of us in the Bluegrass Region will be bright and dry today with highs near 91° in Lexington and areas to the north and west.  Meanwhile, temperatures will struggle into the lower 80s in southern Kentucky as clouds and even a few stray showers and thunderstorms linger along a front, stationary over the Tennessee Valley.

Low pressure will slide northeast along the front, pushing moisture back to the north, into central Kentucky, tomorrow.  Showers and thunderstorms will occur across the area from Thursday into Sunday, and even into early next week.  They’ll be scattered, but at least there is good hope for some accumulating rain, several days in a row.

We sure need it, considering we have a 7.67" rainfall deficit so far this year. 

To get a general sense of what we can expect over the next three days, here is the latest NAM / WRF forecast for rainfall, between now and Saturday evening.  You’ll notice that western Kentucky, which has been quite a bit drier than us, will benefit from some SOAKING rainfall.  The NAM produces about 3" over far western Kentucky, at least in a few pockets south of Evansville, Indiana.
