Sunshine and lower humidity return across Kentucky
A much quieter weather pattern settles into the region heading into the weekend
Foggy Start Gives Way To Improving Conditions
After several days of rain and storms across Central and Eastern Kentucky, many areas started Thursday morning dealing with patchy fog and stubborn cloud cover.
The fog has since cleared out as drier air continues to slowly work its way into the region behind the recent stretch of active weather. Temperatures this morning have also started off a little cooler compared to what we were seeing earlier this week, although conditions still remain fairly mild overall.
Some lingering clouds continue to hang around this morning, but conditions are expected to steadily improve as we move deeper into the afternoon hours.
Sunshine Returns This Afternoon
For the rest of today, skies will gradually clear as high pressure over the Great Lakes continues pushing drier air into Kentucky.
That means sunshine will make a return for many locations later this afternoon, and despite the recent cloud cover, temperatures are still expected to climb back into the low 80s across much of the region.
Winds will stay out of the northeast between 5 and 15 mph, helping keep humidity levels more comfortable compared to the muggy conditions we dealt with over the past several days.
Cooler Nights Ahead With Comfortable Conditions
Tonight will be one of the cooler nights we have seen in quite some time.
Skies are expected to stay mostly clear overnight, allowing temperatures to fall back into the mid 50s for many areas. Some of the more sheltered valleys, especially across the Bluegrass region, could even dip into the upper 40s by early Friday morning.
Unlike the past few mornings, widespread fog is not expected tonight thanks to the much drier air moving into the area.
Mostly Dry And Pleasant Weekend Ahead
Friday is shaping up to be a beautiful start to the weekend with lots of sunshine and afternoon highs warming back into the upper 70s.
The overall weather pattern through the weekend looks much quieter compared to the active setup we have dealt with recently. A few isolated showers may try to develop across southern Kentucky near the Kentucky/Tennessee border both Saturday and Sunday, but many areas, especially around Lexington and the Bluegrass, are expected to stay dry with a good amount of sunshine.
One of the biggest changes this weekend will be the drop in humidity. A reinforcing shot of drier air arrives Saturday, and you will definitely notice the difference outside compared to the sticky air we have had recently.
Quiet Start To June
As we head into early next week and the start of June, dry air is expected to remain firmly in place across much of Kentucky.
That means mostly sunny skies and very comfortable conditions will continue through at least the first half of next week. Temperatures will stay slightly below average for late May and early June standards, with highs generally reaching the mid to upper 70s and overnight lows falling into the 50s and lower 60s.
