Cooler air moves in after storms, frost risk returns this weekend in Kentucky

Storms Move Out, Leaving Behind Clouds and Showers

We saw a line of showers and storms push through late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, bringing gusty winds and frequent lightning across the region.

While the stronger storms have moved out, we were left with lingering showers through the morning and even into parts of the afternoon. Those spotty showers are gradually tapering off as we head through the rest of the day.

Clouds will slowly break up later this afternoon and into the evening as a cold front continues to move east of the area.

Drying Out Tonight with a Cooler Feel

As we head into tonight, drier air begins to move in behind that front. Skies will clear out, and temperatures will drop noticeably compared to the past few nights.

Overnight lows will fall into the 40s, so it’s going to feel much cooler heading out the door Thursday morning. A light jacket will definitely be needed to start the day.

Cooler and Comfortable for Thursday

Thursday will be a refreshing change from the recent warm and stormy pattern.

High pressure builds into the region, bringing plenty of dry air and mostly sunny skies. Afternoon highs will only reach the low to mid 60s, which is below average for late April but will feel comfortable with lower humidity.

Watching for a Few Isolated Showers Friday

As we head into Friday, the overall pattern stays mostly dry, but we could see a few isolated showers develop, especially during the morning into early afternoon hours.

Moisture will be limited, so any rain that does fall should be light and scattered, and many areas may stay completely dry.

Frost Potential Returns This Weekend

Looking ahead to the weekend, cooler air continues to settle in.

Overnight lows will dip into the upper 30s and low 40s, and in some spots even into the mid to upper 30s. That could lead to some patchy frost, especially by early Sunday morning across parts of the Bluegrass.

If you have sensitive plants, you’ll want to keep an eye on the forecast and be ready to protect them.

Quiet Weather Before a More Active Pattern

Most of the weekend looks dry, with temperatures staying in the upper 50s to low 60s during the day.

By early next week, the weather pattern looks to turn more active again, with multiple systems potentially bringing increased rain chances back to the region.
