Showers and storms return to Kentucky Saturday before cooler air moves in

Warm and Sunny Start Before the Weekend System

Friday turned out to be a really nice day across the region. We saw plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures, with afternoon highs climbing into the low to mid 80s.

As we head into tonight, conditions will stay quiet for a while. Temperatures will remain mild, only dropping into the mid 50s to mid 60s overnight. However, clouds will begin to increase late as our next weather system approaches from the northwest.

Showers and Storms Build In Saturday

Saturday is shaping up to be a much more active day.

We’ll start off with a few isolated showers possible during the morning hours, but the bigger story comes later in the day. As a strong cold front pushes into the region, showers will become more widespread, with scattered thunderstorms developing through the afternoon and evening.

While the overall severe threat remains on the lower side, a few storms could still become briefly strong. The main impacts we’re watching include heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and gusty winds. Some storms could produce stronger wind gusts, especially across eastern parts of the viewing area where a bit more heating is expected.

Temperatures will try to warm into the 70s ahead of the front, but clouds and rain will likely keep things from getting too warm for many locations.

Rain Tapers Off and Cooler Air Moves In

As we head into Saturday night, showers will gradually come to an end from northwest to southeast. Behind the cold front, much cooler air will begin to filter into the region.

Temperatures will fall quickly Saturday night, dropping into the upper 30s and low 40s by early Sunday morning.

Cooler but Sunny for Sunday

Sunday will feel very different compared to the warmth we’ve been enjoying.

We’ll start the day off chilly, with morning temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s. Sunshine returns through the day, but afternoon highs will only reach the upper 50s to low 60s.

It will be a dry and refreshing end to the weekend, but definitely cooler than what we’ve been used to.

Gradual Warm-Up Next Week

Looking ahead, we begin a steady warm-up as we head into the new work week.

Monday and Tuesday look dry and pleasant, with temperatures climbing back into the 60s and eventually the 70s by Tuesday. By the middle and end of the week, highs will return to the 70s and even low 80s in some spots.

There will be a few isolated rain chances later in the week, but overall, much of the week looks fairly quiet with gradual warming.
