A cold start leads to a warm up as temperatures continue to swing
Chilly Start Gives Way to Spring Warmth
High pressure settled over the Ohio Valley is bringing a cold and quiet start to our Tuesday, with early morning temperatures dipping into the 30s and even a few upper 20s in colder spots. Skies remain mostly clear to partly cloudy, allowing for a crisp feel to begin the day.
Despite the chilly start, sunshine takes over and helps temperatures rebound into the upper 50s and low 60s by the afternoon. Dry air in place will keep conditions comfortable, and while vegetation may dry out somewhat, light winds should prevent any major fire concerns.
A noticeable warm-up follows as winds turn southerly. On Wednesday, we’ll see highs in the upper 60s.
Showers Return Briefly Before Peak Warmth
A weak disturbance moving through the region Wednesday night will bring a chance for scattered showers and possibly a rumble of thunder, mainly late at night into early morning. This activity looks limited, with most areas seeing little impact.
Once that system moves out, warmer air surges in. Afternoon temperatures are expected to jump into the upper 70s, running well above normal for late March and potentially nearing record levels in some spots.
Stronger Front Brings Rain and Falling Temperatures
The warm stretch won’t last long. A cold front sweeps through heading into the end of the week, bringing the best chance for widespread rain. While thunderstorms are possible, severe weather appears unlikely at this time.
Temperatures may peak early Friday before dropping steadily through the day as cooler air moves in. By afternoon, readings fall into the 50s, with even cooler conditions settling in overnight.
Cooler but Quiet Weekend Ahead
Behind the front, high pressure returns and brings a stretch of dry but cooler weather. Saturday morning lows could dip near or below freezing in some areas, with daytime highs mainly in the 50s.
The cooler air won’t stick around for long. Temperatures begin to moderate again, rising into the 60s by Sunday and back into the 70s early next week, continuing the overall trend of up-and-down spring weather across the region.
