Rain and storms linger as this springlike pattern continues
This morning and afternoon
An active pattern continues across the Bluegrass region this morning as showers and embedded thunderstorms move through central and eastern Kentucky. Periods of moderate rain are likely through the late morning and early afternoon before coverage gradually decreases.
Early today, rainfall N of I-64 may lead to ponding or briefly flooded roads, particularly in low-lying and poor drainage areas. There are a few Flood Warnings for northern KY. If you travel in one of these areas and come across a flooded roadway, always remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
As the day goes on, rainfall becomes more scattered, though skies remain mostly cloudy. Temperatures climb into the upper 60s and lower 70s, keeping conditions mild despite lingering clouds.
Tonight into Thursday
Another disturbance moves through later today and tonight, bringing another round of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a stronger storm could produce gusty winds and some marginally severe hail.
We do see a Level 1 severe weather risk for tonight due to the threat of larger hail.
Rain willpersist into Thursday as a band of showers and embedded storms pushes across the Bluegrass, keeping the ground wet.
End of the week
A brief lull in precipitation arrives Friday as the pattern relaxes. Drier conditions and increasing sunshine allow temperatures to surge well above normal, with highs climbing into the upper 70s and potentially approaching record levels for early March.
We will still see pop-up showers and storms, although more dry time may allow you to get outdoors.
This weekend
Rain and storm chances return Saturday as another frontal boundary moves through Kentucky. Showers and thunderstorms may bring additional rounds of heavy rain, which could renew concerns for ponding and minor flooding issues in spots that see repeated rainfall.
Despite the unsettled weather, temperatures remain warm before slightly cooler air filters in behind the front later in the weekend.
