Cold weekend in Kentucky before big warm-up brings rain chances next week
Snow showers move through as colder air settles back into Kentucky
After starting Friday with some sunshine and chilly morning temperatures, things quickly turned more wintry across central and eastern Kentucky. By late morning into early afternoon, a fast-moving line of snow showers pushed through the region, bringing bursts of moderate snowfall before sliding east by mid-afternoon.
Once the snow moved out, temperatures actually climbed a bit above freezing for many communities. Most areas warmed into the mid to upper 30s, with a few spots in southern Kentucky briefly reaching the low 40s, a small break before colder air returned.
Snow squalls possible tonight with temperatures dropping again
While the main snow band is gone, the weather isn’t completely quiet just yet.
Additional snow squalls could develop tonight as colder air continues to pour into the region. These quick-hitting bursts of snow won’t last long, but any that move through could leave behind a light coating in spots.
Overnight temperatures will fall back into the upper teens and low 20s, keeping roads slick where snow showers develop. Skies will stay mostly cloudy as the colder air settles in.
A cold Saturday ahead with only a little sunshine
Saturday will feel noticeably colder than Friday afternoon.
High temperatures will struggle to get out of the mid to upper 20s across most of central and eastern Kentucky. While we may see a few breaks of sunshine, it won’t do much to warm things up. Any leftover moisture on roads could refreeze early in the morning, so slick spots will remain possible.
Slightly warmer Sunday, but flurries may linger
By Sunday, temperatures will begin a slow climb, but we’re still staying on the chilly side.
Highs should reach the low 30s with mostly cloudy skies. A few snow flurries may drift through during the day, though no additional accumulation is expected. It will feel cold, gray, and very much like mid-winter across the region.
A big warm-up arrives next week with rain chances returning
The pattern finally starts to change as we head into next week.
Temperatures will jump into the upper 40s on Monday, then surge into the mid 50s by Tuesday, a huge shift compared to the cold we’ve been dealing with. Along with the warmer air comes our next weather system, bringing the chance for rain showers late Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
After that, temperatures are expected to stay in the 40s and 50s for much of the week, signaling a noticeable break from the persistent winter chill.
