Cold weather continues through the middle of the week

Temperatures stay cold through the work week

Wednesday is starting frigid, with a Cold Weather Advisory for those along and north of I-64. This expires at 11 AM. Those under the advisories can see wind chills as low as -5 to -10 degrees. Even those further south will see wind chills only in the teens. Afternoon temperatures will only warm to the low 20s.

Our lows will continue to be cold in the single digits with wind chill temps even colder. Daytime highs will be in the teens and 20s through the end of the work week.

A chance of snow and more cold air

Through the rest of the work week, anytime that we see low-level clouds, we will likely see snowflakes. It is cold enough that the moisture in clouds will quickly freeze and become snow.

Friday may see some more substantial snow showers as a system moves close to the Bluegrass. These flurries may leave a light coating on surfaces, but they will not cause any impacts beyond what we have left over from the previous weekend.

The main impact that this system will bring is more arctic air. Winds from the north will make Saturday morning temperatures frigid, with wind chills potentially as low as -15 degrees. Daytime high temperatures will struggle to make it out of the low teens.

Hoping for temperature relief early next week

As we head into the beginning of February, we may see a bit of relief. Temperatures possibly warm above freezing, but still look to stay below average.

Longterm temperatures outlooks continue to trend below average through the start of February, so we will likely stay cold. The hope is that come Monday, February 5, the groundhog does not see his shadow, and we can have a shot at an early spring!
