Unsettled weather pattern sets up as rain showers and colder air move In

A chilly, unsettled pattern brings light showers, a few flakes, and a stronger chance for wintry weather early next week.

Clouds, Light Showers, and a Touch of Wintry Weather

Clouds filled in across the region today, keeping temperatures cool with highs in the low 40s for most of us. As we head into tonight, a weak system will bring scattered rain showers — and yes, a few flakes or a brief wintry mix may try to mix in at the start. If we see any snowflakes, all of this is expected to change into cold rain as we head into tonight and tomorrow.

Because temperatures hover just above freezing and the ground is still relatively warm, little to no impact is expected, though drivers should watch for slick spots on bridges and overpasses late tonight into early Sunday.

Colder Air Arrives Sunday

Showers will linger into Sunday, and once again a flurry or two can’t be ruled out. The bigger story, however, will be the reinforcing blast of cold air behind a passing cold front.

Temperatures may actually fall during the day Sunday, dropping into the 20s and 30s, with wind chills stuck in the upper teens and low 20s. Clouds will hang tough, although areas south of the parkways may see a few brief breaks.

No major impacts are expected from the lingering moisture, but it will certainly feel more like late December than late November.

High Pressure Brings Dry but Chilly Weather Monday

High pressure settles in Sunday night into Monday, calming winds and keeping skies mostly cloudy. Morning lows dip into the low-to-mid 20s with a cold but quiet Monday ahead. Some sunshine may break through during the day, but highs stay chilly in the 30s.

This quiet stretch won’t last long — the next system is already on the way.

Next System Arrives Monday Night Into Tuesday

Our next weather maker approaches late Monday night into early Tuesday morning, and this one has a bit more complexity. Moisture will lift in from a developing Gulf low, giving us a chance for accumulating snow, possibly 2–4 inches, though there’s still uncertainty. A more southern storm track could mean more snow but less total moisture. A stronger, more northern track could bring more moisture but introduce mixing or even rain.

Either way, the timing could cause travel impacts Tuesday morning, so this is one to watch closely. As always, changes are likely over the next couple of days.

Midweek Calm Before Another Late-Week System

Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday look quieter with highs 30s to low 40s. Another weak cold front brings clouds Wednesday night into Thursday, knocking temps down slightly.

By Friday and into the weekend, another system may emerge from the southwest. Current trends suggest it would fall mainly as rain, but a few ensemble members still hint at the possibility of some wintry mix — so it’s worth monitoring.
