A cold morning and chilly afternoon for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

Thursday is starting around 20 degrees colder than it was on Wednesday morning. This means low morning temperatures will be in the upper 20s and low 30s. Winds are gusting up to 20 mph, especially in the northeast. This means that wind chill temperatures will be around 5-10 degrees below actual air temperatures. If you’re heading out for a Turkey Trot this morning, wear proper layers to avoid getting too cold. By the afternoon, clouds will have cleared, and the sun will be shining. However, temperatures won’t rise much. High temps are expected to land in the mid-30s.

Black Friday

The chilly weather continues for the end of the week, with morning temperatures expected to drop to the low 20s and possibly upper teens. Wind chills will not be as prevalent on Friday. Still, if you plan to head out early to snag some Black Friday deals, make sure to bundle up. By the afternoon, we’ll only reach the low 30s. Skies will be mostly sunny through the day as high pressure builds in to the southeast.

The Weekend

The weekend forecast remains a head-scratcher, as model runs still differ on the precip type we see through the weekend. This is because a low-pressure system is driving weather into the area, with snow to the north and rain to the south, and a transition zone of mixed precipitation in the middle. Several weather models are beginning ot agree on a more northern track for this system, meaning that we will likely be in the ‘rainy’ zone, with a few flurries mixed in. However, if the system shifts southward, we may see more of that snowfall. As of now, minor travel impacts are expected with little to no snow accumulation. We’ll continue to monitor for changes in the forecast as the weekend nears.
