Gusty Winds, Falling Temperatures, and a Chilly Thanksgiving Ahead

Cold, sunny Thanksgiving ahead with two very chilly nights and a weekend system bringing the chance for rain or a wintry mix.

Showers Move Out, Winds Pick Up, and Temperatures Drop

We started the day under clouds with a few lingering showers, but all of that pushed out by late morning. Behind the rain came very gusty winds, which stuck around through the afternoon thanks to a strong pressure gradient behind the departing system. Temperatures reached the low to mid 50s early this morning—that was our high for the day—and then began to fall steadily throughout the afternoon, eventually dropping into the 30s.

Breezy conditions will continue tonight as colder air funnels into the region. Overnight lows drop into the mid 20s to low 30s, setting the stage for a cold stretch heading into the holiday.

Thanksgiving Day: Bright, Dry, and Very Chilly

Thursday morning starts off very cold, with lows dropping into the low 20s—and some sheltered spots may even dip into the upper teens. If you’re participating in a Turkey Trot, you’re definitely going to feel that chill.

Despite full sunshine returning by early afternoon, Thanksgiving Day stays on the chilly side. Highs only reach the upper 30s to low 40s, with cool, dry air sticking in place. Winds won’t be quite as strong as Wednesday, but the cool air sticks around all day.

Thursday Night Into Friday: Coldest Stretch of the Week

Thursday night brings another blast of cold air, with lows once again dipping back into the low 20s, and some upper teens in rural areas. If you’re heading out early for Black Friday shopping, you’ll absolutely want to bundle up.

Friday stays dry with sunshine—but don’t expect much warmth. Highs only reach the mid 30s. Winds will lighten up as high pressure settles overhead, but increasing cloud cover Friday night ahead of the next system may prevent temperatures from falling as drastically as the night before.

Weekend System: Rain? Snow? Mix? We’re Watching It Closely

Saturday begins dry with temperatures warming into the 40s to near 50° thanks to increasing southwest flow ahead of our next storm system.

A developing low-pressure system moves from the southern Plains toward the Great Lakes late Saturday into Sunday. Forecast models are still split—some keep the snow north of the Ohio River, others bring a rain/snow mix as far south as our area.

Right now: Rain is the most likely outcome, but a mix or a few snow showers can’t be ruled out. Any snow that does fall looks light and minor, with warm ground limiting impacts.

Precipitation moves out by midday Sunday, followed by another drop into the 20s Sunday night.
