Sunshine returns before a midweek soaking rain arrives

Sunshine returns Sunday before a midweek rainmaker moves in.

Rain Moves Out & Skies Slowly Clear

After a damp start to Saturday, the last few areas of drizzle finally exited the region by midday. Cloud cover hung around for much of the day, but just as expected, skies gradually cleared from north to south this evening. Highs reached the upper 50s and low 60s — a nice rebound after a cool, gray stretch.

Behind the clearing skies, high pressure continues to build in from the west. With calmer winds and leftover low-level moisture, some areas may see patchy fog develop overnight, especially in spots where clouds cleared last. Temperatures will fall into the upper 30s to low 40s.

A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for the entire area until 10 A.M. Eastern time Sunday Morning.

A Beautiful Sunday Ahead

Sunday is shaping up to be the pick of the weekend. Sunshine takes over as high pressure strengthens across the Ohio Valley, bringing a cool but comfortable late-November day.

Expect afternoon highs once again in the upper 50s to low 60s with light winds and plenty of blue sky. Any early morning fog should mix out quickly as drier air filters in.

Skies remain clear Sunday night, allowing temperatures to drop back into the 30s heading into early Monday morning.

Clouds Return Monday, Rain Follows Late Monday Night

Monday will start off quiet and dry, but changes approach quickly. As the next storm system organizes in the Plains, high clouds will begin spreading in through the morning and afternoon.

Most of Monday stays dry, but stronger moisture pushes in after sunset. A strengthening southwest wind just above the surface, will funnel moisture into the region, setting the stage for our next soaking rain event.

Rain becomes widespread late Monday night into Tuesday, and a few rumbles of thunder are possible, mainly across south-central Kentucky.

Widespread Rain Tuesday, Then Turning Colder

Tuesday remains wet for much of the day with periods of steady rain. Temperatures stay mild, with highs in the low to mid 60s before a weak front pushes through late in the day.

Some lingering showers may hold on into early Wednesday, but the bigger story becomes the second, much stronger cold front dropping in midweek.

Behind that front, temperatures fall sharply. By Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday, highs will only reach the low to mid 40s, with morning lows dipping into the mid 20s. A very small chance of light rain/snow mix may develop Friday night, but moisture looks limited.
