Cool, sunny start to the week before rain returns Tuesday

Sunshine starts the week, but a soaking rain returns by Tuesday.

A Quiet, Breezy Sunday with Plenty of Sunshine

Sunday brought another beautiful but cooler fall day across the region. Afternoon highs reached the mid to upper 50s, and a few southern spots even managed to touch the low 60s. Sunshine dominated the sky, though northwest winds stayed breezy, adding a bit of a chill at times. Behind last night’s cold front, much drier air moved in.

Temperatures will take a dive tonight under clear skies and lighter winds. Expect overnight lows dropping into the low 30s, with a few rural areas dipping into the upper 20s by early Monday morning.

Monday: Sunshine Sticks Around Before Rain Moves In

If you liked today, Monday will be another repeat. High pressure stays in control, meaning plenty of sunshine, light winds, and seasonable temperatures. Highs will top out in the mid 50s, making for a pleasant but cool fall day.

Dry air will remain in place through much of Monday, but things begin to change Monday night. A system developing over the Plains will head our way, spreading clouds and eventually rain into the Ohio Valley.

Rain Returns Tuesday, Beginning a Wet Stretch

Rain chances increase late Monday night and into Tuesday morning as the first wave of moisture moves in. Expect scattered to widespread rain through Tuesday, with the potential for a few embedded rumbles of thunder due to elevated instability. Rain continues into Tuesday night as a warm front sets up in Kentucky. This boundary will create a big temperature spread across the region: Mid to upper 50s expected in the Bluegrass and Upper 60s to near 70° possible for far southwestern counties

More Rain Through Mid to Late Week

Rain chances linger into Wednesday, though amounts should be lighter and more isolated compared to Tuesday.

However, this won’t be the last of it. A stalled boundary and repeated waves of moisture will keep rain chances going through the end of the week. Some models suggest 1–3 inches of total rainfall between Tuesday and Saturday, though the details are still developing.

Temperatures will begin to warm again by midweek, with highs returning to the mid and upper 60s for the second half of the week.
