Rainy days ahead for Central and Eastern Kentucky
After a gray and chilly Tuesday, widespread rain moves in Wednesday before sunshine returns by the weekend.
Clouds Linger as Another Round of Rain Approaches
After a stretch of cloudy and cool weather, rain chances are gearing up once again for midweek. While today stayed mostly dry for many, the umbrellas will be needed soon as a new system pushes across the region. Temperatures will remain below average through the week, keeping that fall chill firmly in place.
A Gray Tuesday with Spotty Sprinkles
Tuesday started off on a cloudy note, with lingering showers from Monday’s system finally moving out during the early morning hours. While most of the day remained dry, some areas still saw a few light sprinkles under the stubborn blanket of clouds. Temperatures this afternoon stayed cool, only reaching the low to mid-50s across the ABC 36 viewing area — around ten degrees below normal for this time of year. Clouds will hold firm through the evening, and temperatures will only fall into the mid-40s overnight as the next weather maker approaches.
Widespread Rain Returns Wednesday
As we move into the overnight hours and through Wednesday, a new low-pressure system will move in from the west, bringing widespread showers across much of central and eastern Kentucky.
Rain totals could add up to 1 to 2 inches for most locations, with isolated higher amounts possible. The good news — despite the steady rain — is that flooding isn’t expected thanks to the recent dry conditions. With the clouds and rain around, Wednesday’s highs will once again stay chilly, only reaching the low to mid-50s. You’ll definitely want to grab the rain gear if you’re heading out and plan for a damp and dreary day.
Lingering Showers into Thursday
Showers will continue into Thursday, though they’ll become more scattered as the system pulls away to the east. Skies will stay mostly cloudy through much of the day, but some drying is expected by Thursday evening. Temperatures will remain on the cool side, keeping that fall feel going into the end of the week.
Looking Ahead to Halloween and the Weekend
Friday — and Halloween — are looking much more pleasant! Sunshine will make a comeback, setting the stage for a dry and crisp day. Trick-or-treaters will want to bundle up, though, as evening temperatures will quickly drop into the upper 40s once the sun goes down. The upcoming weekend looks to stay quiet, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 50s. Overall, a calm and cool pattern will settle in after a soggy middle of the week.
