A dreary start to the week with chilly, on-and-off showers
Keep those jackets and umbrellas handy as rain chances stick around through midweek.
Clouds Linger with Light Showers to Start the Week
After a mostly cloudy Sunday, we managed to catch a few brief glimpses of sunshine across central Kentucky this afternoon before the clouds filled back in. Temperatures topped out in the low to mid-60s — right on the cooler side for late October. A few light showers have been moving across the area, and those chances will increase tonight as more moisture lifts in from the south.
More Clouds and Showers Move In
Clouds will continue to thicken this evening as a slow-moving low-pressure system over the southern Plains drifts east. That will spread light rain showers into the region from southwest to northeast. Areas across southern Kentucky are expected to see the steadiest rain, while spots farther north may stay on the lighter side.
Overnight lows will stay mild thanks to the cloud cover, dipping into the upper 40s. Some areas in southern Kentucky may only fall into the low 50s.
Damp and Cool Start to the Week
Monday will be another gray, cool day with periods of light rain. Most of the rain will be light to moderate at times, and while it won’t be a washout, it will be one of those days where you’ll want to keep the rain jacket handy. Highs will struggle to reach the mid-50s to near 60 degrees, well below normal for this time of year.
Winds will come from the east-northeast at 5 to 10 mph, adding to that cool, damp feel throughout the day.
Showers Taper Off, Clouds Stick Around
As the system slowly moves east, rain chances will begin to decrease Monday night. Some areas may still see a few scattered or isolated showers, especially east of I-65, but many will begin to dry out overnight. Temperatures will once again drop into the upper 40s and low 50s, with plenty of low clouds lingering through early Tuesday morning.
Midweek: More Rain on the Way
After a brief break on Tuesday, another system will move in from the northwest, bringing the potential for widespread rain Tuesday night into Wednesday. This next round of rain looks more significant, with rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches possible — and some areas could see a little more depending on where the heaviest rain bands set up.
Temperatures will stay cool all week long, with highs generally in the mid-50s to near 60 degrees and lows in the 40s. It’s about 10 degrees below average for this point in October.
By Thursday, most of the rain should begin to move out, though a few isolated showers could linger into Thursday or Friday.
Looking Ahead
The pattern remains active into the end of the week with cooler-than-normal temperatures and occasional light rain chances. However, by the weekend, high pressure looks to return — which should bring us some much-needed sunshine and drier weather heading into early November.
