Frankfort man accused of killing two sons in house fire appears in court

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Frankfort man accused of killing his two sons and the family dog in a house fire was back in court Friday for status hearings in two separate cases.

According to prosecutors, Dustin Fields faces charges of two counts of murder, first-degree arson, and torture of a dog in connection with the April 30 fire at his home on Flat Creek Road. Investigators allege Fields intentionally set the fire knowing his 13-year-old and 15-year-old sons — and the family dog — were inside.

During Friday’s hearing, both the prosecution and defense told the court they are still waiting on reports from federal investigators. “And we still don’t have a report from ATF?” the judge asked. “That’s correct,” prosecutors replied.

Fields also faces a separate case involving allegations of sexual abuse of a young child. His attorney told the court a motion for discovery has been filed in that case, requesting several CPS reports and protective order files referenced by detectives.

Fields is scheduled to return to court for both cases on December 12.
