A Change in the Pattern: Rain Returns to Start the Week
Showers and storms return early this week before cooler fall-like air settles in.
Sunshine Wraps Up the Weekend
The first weekend of October wrapped up on a familiar note—sunny, dry, and warm. Afternoon highs climbed into the low to mid-80s across the region, making it feel more like late summer than early fall. Tonight, skies will stay mostly clear with lows dropping into the low 60s, a mild start to the new workweek.
Increasing Clouds Monday
Cloud cover begins to thicken Monday morning, a sign that our quiet stretch of weather is about to change. While the morning will likely stay dry, isolated showers may pop up by late morning or early afternoon. The better chance for rain will arrive later in the day as moisture streams in from the south. Afternoon highs will still reach the low 80s, but the clouds and scattered showers will make it feel a touch cooler than the weekend.
Widespread Rain Monday Night into Tuesday
The real change arrives Monday night into Tuesday. A cold front and upper-level disturbance will bring widespread, soaking rainfall to much of Central and Eastern Kentucky. Totals between 1 and 1.5 inches are likely, with some spots possibly picking up over 2 inches. Thunderstorms may mix in at times, but the severe threat looks low. The main story is the much-needed beneficial rain, which should help ease some of the dry conditions we’ve been experiencing.
Turning Cooler Midweek
By Tuesday evening, most of the rain should begin to move out, clearing the way for a drier Wednesday. Temperatures behind the front will take a noticeable dip, with highs only in the low to mid-70s for the rest of the week. Overnight lows will also cool off, dropping into the upper 40s and 50s by mid to late week. It will finally start to feel a little more like October.
Looking Ahead
The late-week forecast looks quiet overall, with cooler, seasonal temperatures holding steady. A weak system may try to sneak in by the weekend, but for now, the outlook leans mostly dry with highs in the 70s.
