Sunshine Wraps Up September, October Starts Warm and Dry
Warm, Dry Weather Continues as September Ends and October Begins
A Picture-Perfect Sunday
Sunday brought another fabulous day across central and eastern Kentucky with highs in the mid-80s and plenty of sunshine to close out the final weekend of September. Tonight will be another pleasant evening, with temperatures dropping back into the upper 50s under mostly clear skies—perfect for winding down the weekend.
Staying Warm as We Head Into October
As we kick off the new week and new month, the pattern stays consistent—dry, warm, and running a few degrees above average for this time of year. High pressure in control will keep skies mostly clear on Monday with highs again in the mid-80s. A touch of patchy fog is possible in low-lying river valleys early in the morning, but otherwise, the day looks great.
Watching for Isolated Showers Early Week
While most of us remain dry, there is a slim chance for a few isolated showers in southeastern Kentucky on Monday or Tuesday. Even if they do pop up, most of the region will stay rain-free. Beyond that, high pressure and ridging aloft will take charge once again, delivering more sunshine and dry weather into the end of the week. Highs will hold in the low-to-mid 80s early in the week, before settling back closer to the upper 70s and low 80s later on.
Tropics Update: Imelda No Longer a Concern
Tropical Storm Imelda formed in the Atlantic earlier today, but the good news is it’s expected to curve back out to sea instead of making landfall. That means it will not have any direct impacts on our weather here in Kentucky. With Imelda moving away, our rain chances remain close to zero, leaving us dry and sunny for the next seven days.
Dry Pattern and Drought Concerns
The stretch of sunny, rain-free weather sounds appealing, but it does come with a trade-off. With no rain in the forecast this week, drought conditions across Kentucky are expected to persist and may even worsen. While it will be a pleasant stretch of fall weather, the region could use a soaking rain to help replenish dry soils.
