Calm and Warm Locally, While the Tropics Heat Up
Sunshine Stays Strong While the Tropics Grab Attention
Saturday Recap: A Gorgeous Fall Day
Saturday was another beautiful one across the Bluegrass. Sunshine dominated with just a few passing clouds, and afternoon highs reached the low 80s — perfect for late September. Tonight, temperatures fall back into the upper 50s under mostly clear skies. Light winds and clear conditions may allow for some patchy fog in low-lying and river valley areas early Sunday morning, so keep that in mind if you’re out early.
Sunday: A Repeat of Saturday’s Sunshine
Sunday will feel like a “copy and paste” of Saturday, but just a touch warmer. High pressure overhead keeps skies sunny, winds light, and highs climbing into the mid 80s. It’s another fantastic fall day to spend outdoors, and humidity levels remain comfortable.
Early Next Week: Warm and Mostly Dry
High pressure sticks around as we head into Monday and Tuesday, keeping central Kentucky dry and warm. In fact, temperatures may run nearly 10 degrees above normal for late September, with highs in the low to mid 80s. Overnight lows will be mild, settling in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Watching the Tropics: Two Systems in Play
The bigger question mark is what’s happening out in the Atlantic. Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine is forecast to become a tropical storm this weekend and could strengthen into a hurricane as it drifts north through the Bahamas and toward the Carolinas early next week. Meanwhile, Hurricane Humberto is spinning farther east, creating a rare setup where the two storms could interact through what’s known as the Fujiwhara Effect — a phenomenon where nearby storms can rotate around each other or even merge.
That unusual scenario makes the track and impacts of these systems tricky to nail down. For now, models suggest most of the tropical moisture will stay east of Kentucky, but if the system strengthens and makes a landfall and tracks farther inland, some residual tropical rain could reach our area by late next week.
Late Week: Temperatures Ease Back
As the tropical system works up the East Coast and breaks down the ridge over our region, temperatures will gradually cool back closer to normal. Highs should slide into the upper 70s by the end of the week, with lows dipping into the 50s.
