Sunshine stays strong as warmth builds through the week

Sunny skies and above-normal warmth continue as September feels more like summer.

A Clear and Comfortable Start

Wednesday began on a pleasant note, with overnight lows dipping into the low to mid-50s under mostly clear skies. Some patchy dense fog formed in a few spots early this morning, but that is expected to clear out as the sun takes over. By this afternoon, look for plenty of sunshine with highs climbing into the upper 80s—another day of unseasonably warm weather for mid-September. Tonight, skies remain mostly clear with lows falling back into the upper 50s.

Building Heat Toward the Weekend

The stretch of sunny, warm afternoons will continue through the rest of the week. Highs will stay in the upper 80s through Thursday, but as we head into Friday and Saturday, temperatures could push into the low 90s. That’s nearly 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. Fortunately, humidity levels will stay in check, keeping the heat a little more tolerable.

First Hints of Change This Weekend

By the weekend, a weak frontal system may begin to influence our weather. While the overall pattern remains dry, there could be a slight chance for isolated showers late in the weekend and into early next week—right around the official start of fall on Monday. Even if rain is hit-or-miss, many will notice more clouds mixing in with the sunshine. Highs through the weekend and early next week look to stay in the mid to upper 80s.

Drought Concerns Continue

Despite small improvements in the latest drought monitor, the prolonged stretch of dry weather is taking its toll. Lawns, fields, and vegetation continue to dry out, and without a meaningful stretch of rainfall, conditions could worsen in the coming weeks. Many counties in the region already have burn bans in place, and the warm, dry weather will keep fire danger elevated.
