Hot, Mostly Dry Weather Dominates Central and Eastern Kentucky
Ridge of high pressure brings sunshine, heat, and just a few isolated storms.
Another Hot and Mostly Dry Weekend
The last weekend of summer break for some students came with another round of hot and mostly dry weather across central and eastern Kentucky. Thanks to a stubborn upper-level ridge of high pressure, highs soared into the upper 80s and even low 90s in some spots Sunday afternoon. Factor in the humidity, and it felt more like the upper 90s at times. A few very isolated showers popped up during the afternoon hours, but most of us stayed dry under plenty of sunshine.
If you were outside for any length of time, you definitely needed the sunscreen, and a bottle of water close by. It’s still great weather for the pool or the lake — just keep in mind any stray shower that might linger into the early evening will quickly fade after sunset.
Hot and Humid Pattern Sticking Around
Moisture will slowly begin creeping back into the area Monday, which may bump up our stray storm chances a little. Even so, most of the region will continue to see hot, humid, and largely dry weather. Afternoon highs will stick in the upper 80s to low 90s, and with muggy dewpoints, the heat index could flirt with 100 degrees again.
Midweek Storm Chances
By Tuesday and Wednesday, a frontal boundary will sag into the Ohio Valley and stall out. This will increase our scattered storm chances across central and eastern Kentucky. While widespread severe weather is not expected, any storm that develops could bring locally heavy downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. With slow-moving storms and plenty of moisture in place, localized flooding can’t be ruled out midweek.
The front won’t push all the way through, so the hot and humid conditions will stick around into the middle of the month. Expect daily highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, depending on clouds and storm coverage.
