Storms Linger into Sunday with Summer Heat Sticking Around
Scattered Rain and Thunderstorms Stick Around with Summer Time Heat Continuing
Stormy Saturday Brings Rain-Cooled Relief
Saturday brought another round of classic Kentucky summertime storms—hit or miss in nature but loud and occasionally intense. Many of us saw gusty winds, locally heavy rainfall, and plenty of lightning during the afternoon and evening. Temperatures still managed to climb into the lower 90s before storm-cooled air helped bring relief to a few lucky spots. Heading into Saturday night, we’ll keep a small chance for an isolated shower or storm with lows dipping into the lower 70s under partly cloudy skies.
Cold Front Brings More Storms for Sunday
Sunday looks unsettled again as a weak cold front slides into the area. This will provide a fresh spark for scattered showers and storms, especially into the afternoon and early evening. Storms won’t be widespread all day, but where they do develop, expect bursts of heavy rain, gusty winds, and lots of lightning. Highs will settle in the upper 80s—just a notch cooler thanks to the increased clouds and storm coverage. It’s still going to be quite humid, so keep the sunscreen and water handy if you’ve got outdoor plans. Just bring the rain gear along, too.
Typical Summer Pattern Rolls into Next Week
Looking into next week, we’re not shaking the rain chances just yet. While storm coverage may decrease a bit into Monday and Tuesday, scattered afternoon pop-ups will remain possible most days. As we dry out a little, temperatures will rebound, with highs returning to the low to mid 90s by midweek. A strong ridge looks to build over the southeastern U.S., helping crank up both the heat and humidity heading into the middle part of July. Rain chances start to increase again as we go into the middle of next week.
