Warmer Friday afternoon with a few light showers

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – A weak system is lifting through the region this morning, bringing the chance for a few flurries or sprinkles as a warm front pushes northward. The air remains quite dry, so most of this precipitation won’t reach the ground, but don’t be surprised if you see a few flakes before mid-morning. Later today, as warmer air moves in, temperatures will rebound into the low-to-mid 50s, and a few light rain showers could develop during the afternoon.

This warm-up will be short-lived, however, as a cold front swings through tonight, bringing occasional light rain and drizzle before drying out early Saturday morning. While rain amounts will be limited—generally a couple hundredths to around a tenth of an inch—the front will usher in another shot of chilly air. Highs on Saturday will struggle to reach the mid-to-upper 40s from Lexington into northern Kentucky, while southern areas could hold near 50 degrees under gradually clearing skies.

Spring-Like Warmth Arrives Next Week

Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, so don’t forget to set those clocks forward! Sunday will be dry for most of central and eastern Kentucky, but a system passing to our south could bring a light rain chance to far southern parts of the state. Otherwise, expect partly cloudy skies and temperatures climbing into the mid-to-upper 50s.

As we head into next week, high pressure and an upper ridge will build across the region, setting the stage for a significant warm-up. Monday will see highs in the low 60s, followed by low 70s on Tuesday, and potentially mid-70s by Wednesday. With dry conditions and increasing winds, fire weather concerns may develop midweek, so that will be something to monitor.

Looking ahead, another strong storm system is expected to move across the country by the end of next week. While details remain uncertain, the Thursday through Saturday timeframe could bring a return to more active weather, including rain and possibly thunderstorms. Stay tuned as we track this next potential system.
