LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – After a few light showers to start your Tuesday morning, we’re on track for a pleasant stretch of weather before the next round of rain and a sharp temperature drop later in the week. A weak disturbance is pushing a few light showers across northern Kentucky early today, but these will quickly exit, allowing for increasing sunshine through the afternoon. Highs will climb into the mid-to-upper 50s, with southern Kentucky reaching the low 60s.

Warmest Day of the Week on Wednesday

Wednesday will bring even milder conditions as a strong southwest flow pushes temperatures into the 60s across the region. This warmth will be short-lived, though, as a cold front approaches from the northwest late Wednesday night. Rain showers will develop along the front, moving into central and eastern Kentucky through the overnight hours. While most of the region will see just moderate rainfall amounts of 0.25” to 0.5”, a few rumbles of thunder can’t be ruled out during the evening.

Big Cool Down Thursday

The rain will taper off Thursday morning, but temperatures will take a noticeable hit. Highs will struggle to get out of the low 40s by the afternoon as colder air rushes in behind the front. Clouds will linger through much of the day, keeping conditions dreary and cool.

Temperature Swings Continue

Friday morning starts off chilly before a quick rebound in temperatures into the low 50s by the afternoon. The warming trend continues into Saturday ahead of another cold front, which will knock highs back into the 40s by Sunday. This up-and-down pattern will persist into early March, with another warm surge likely early next week before our next storm system moves in by midweek. You can expect the chance of heavy rain, gusty winds, and storms Tuesday into Wednesday.
