LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Tuesday! Breezy and milder conditions are on the horizon as we move through the week, with some wet weather to close out January. Here’s what to expect:

Breezy Mid-week
Tuesday brings breezy southwesterly winds gusting between 20-30 mph, helping to boost afternoon highs into the mid-to-upper 40s across central Kentucky and even the low 50s in southern Kentucky. The clear skies and sunshine will dominate as dry air remains in place.

By Wednesday, similar conditions persist with high pressure to our southeast and a tight pressure gradient contributing to gusty winds. Temperatures will remain mild, with highs reaching the upper 40s to lower 50s under mostly sunny skies. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 20s to lower 30s, with dry weather continuing through midweek.

Rain Thursday night into Friday
Rain moves into the picture late Thursday as a developing storm system approaches from the west. Widespread rain is expected to arrive Thursday night into Friday, with rainfall amounts ranging from 1-2 inches across the region. The heaviest rain will fall overnight Thursday into Friday morning, potentially making for a wet and slippery morning commute. Locally heavier amounts of rain are possible in southern Kentucky. Winds will remain gusty, with breezy southerly flow aiding in warmer temperatures, with highs reaching the mid-to-upper 50s on Friday.

Weekend Preview
As the system departs Friday night into Saturday, cooler air will briefly filter in, dropping highs back to the low-to-mid 40s. However, this cooldown will be short-lived as above-average temperatures return on Sunday and into early next week. Highs could climb back into the upper 50s by Sunday under partly cloudy skies.
