I-75 deadly crash in Whitley County closes lanes for hours, victim identified

UPDATE FROM KENTUCKY STATE POLICE:

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky State Police (KSP) is investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 75 in Whitley County.

According to KSP, the crash happened around 3:16 p.m. at the 15-mile marker on I-75 southbound. Preliminary investigations indicate that a commercial vehicle, driven by 44-year-old Qafa Alfreg of Commerce, Michigan, was traveling south when it was struck by a white 2015 Ford F-150, also heading south.

The driver of the Ford, 28-year-old Michael G. Waits of Lynchburg, Ohio, was taken by EMS to Baptist Health Corbin, where he was treated and released. Tragically, a passenger in the Ford, 24-year-old Addison F. Bailey of Fayetteville, Ohio, was ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene by the Whitley County Coroner.

The investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing. Authorities have not yet released further details.

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Lanes on I-75 southbound have reopened after a deadly crash involving a semi and a pickup truck caused significant delays late Tuesday afternoon.

According to officials, the crash occurred around 3 p.m., near Exit 15 in southern Kentucky, forcing traffic to be diverted for several hours. Crews worked to clear the scene, and all lanes were reopened by approximately 7 p.m.
