Rainy start to Tuesday ahead of a taste of winter late week

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Tuesday! We are tracking a round of rain and a few storms early for your Tuesday before we try to clear things out a bit later this afternoon in central Kentucky. Wednesday will be the day of change as temperatures will be falling behind a quick moving cold front that sweeps through during the midday and afternoon. A quick round of gusty rain showers will be possible while this front passes, with the cold air moving in behind the front by Wednesday night.
Thursday will be a cold, winter-like day. Temperatures will struggle to get out of the upper 30s for most of the area. This will also be our first chance of seeing a rain/snow mix. Temperatures should be above freezing during the afternoon, so even if we see flakes mixing in, don’t expect anything to stick.
Thursday night into Friday will be our best chance of seeing light snow showers. This could lead to very light accumulation on grassy and elevated surfaces in spots, particularly in eastern/northeast Kentucky where temperatures will be a little cooler. Temperatures will start Friday morning hovering right around freezing, before climbing back into the upper 30s near the low 40s by the afternoon. You can expect off and on rain/snow showers to continue through the day as well.
Friday is going to be a blustery day across the region. It will be feeling like the upper teens and low 20s as you head out the door on Friday morning. This doesn’t get much better for the afternoon either as the feels like temperatures will remain in the low-to-mid 30s.
Chilly temperatures continue into the day on Saturday as well. Afternoon highs will range from the mid-to-upper 40s with partly cloudy skies continuing.
The coldest morning could end up being on Sunday. Morning temperatures will range from the 20s to the low 30s. Temperatures rebound closer to average Sunday afternoon and that will continue into Monday. The next system will be moving in late Monday into Tuesday of next week and could bring a round of heavier rain and a few storms. This may impact your holiday travel across the region for the middle of next week.
