Manhunt underway for suspect accused of killing son in Franklin Co.
Police search for 60-year-old man accused of shooting his son during an argument
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky State Police are actively searching for a man accused of killing his son in Franklin County.
Authorities say 60-year-old Steven Girtley allegedly shot and killed his son, 36-year-old Justin Girtley, during an argument at their home in the Flat Creek Road area.
After the incident, Steven Girtley reportedly fled into a nearby wooded area. Authorities said he was last seen wearing camouflage clothing. Police describe him as having blue eyes, a gray beard, and standing six feet tall.
Friends of the family declined to comment on camera but described the Girtleys as good people, calling the situation a tragedy.
KSP says they’re working with multiple agencies in the search using drones and following leads from the public.
Investigators tell ABC 36 at this time they don’t believe there is a threat to the public, but they’re urging anyone with information on Steven Girtley’s whereabouts to contact Kentucky State Police or call 911.
