LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEW NOW) – Happy Thursday! What another fantastic morning across the Bluegrass. Temperatures fell into the mid-40s in many spots. We didn’t get that chilly in Lexington, but we did drop into the low 50s once again. However, a warming trend begins this afternoon. We will finally break out of the mid-70s and reach the upper 70s and low 80s in spots this afternoon. Skies will remain mostly sunny and you can expect a lot of sunshine throughout the day. Tonight we will fall into the low-to-mid 50s as dry air and clear skies will allow overnight temperatures to fall once again.
Our warming trend begins to pick up Friday afternoon. Temperatures will be reaching the mid-80s in most locations. High school football kicks off across the region on Friday and it will likely be a great evening for the first football Friday night. Temperatures will start warm but once the sun begins to set it will be feeling very comfortable.
This weekend will be on the warm and drier end. There is a small chance of stray shower or two but the vast majority of us will remain dry. Outside of some cloud cover around on Saturday, the rest of the day looks fantastic with highs climb into the upper 80s. The 90s are back on Sunday as most locations will make a run at the upper 80s and low 90s. The humidity will start to increase a tad as well and will start to become noticeable.
Temperatures will be making a run at the mid-90s early next week. There will start to be rain and storm chances returning by Tuesday into Wednesday as moisture rides around a strong ridge of high pressure building over the Mississippi Valley. The hot temperatures will likely stick around until a cold front tries to sweep through late next week into Labor Day weekend.
