Hot and humid Tuesday ahead of more storm chances

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Good morning Kentucky! Heavy rain and strong storms rolled through the region overnight but you can expect drier conditions for the morning hours. As the heavy rain exits, we will be left with warm and muggy conditions by lunchtime. There will be isolated-to-scattered showers and storms trying to fire up during the afternoon but these will likely stay south of Lexington. It’s going to heat up this afternoon as well with temperatures climbing into the low 90s in many spots. The heat index will be in the mid-to-upper 90s once you factor in the high humidity.

There is another risk of strong-to-severe storms late this evening into the overnight hours. A Level 2 Severe Risk is out for south-central Kentucky due to the damaging wind gust threat. The risk is lower for Lexington north and eastward. This is because a cluster of storms will be dropping into west-central Kentucky late tonight. The greatest impacts will likely be to our west but if you’re south and west of Lexington you will still need to be staying Weather Aware. Heavy rain leading to localized flooding will be possible late this evening into the overnight hours as well for south-central Kentucky.

We keep this pattern around through mid-to-late week. Clusters of storms will be moving through the region giving us daily strong-to-severe storms and heavy rain. Most of Kentucky is included in a Level 1 Severe Risk on Wednesday, while northern Kentucky is included in a Level 2 Severe Risk on Thursday. The cluster of storms moving through the Ohio Valley on Thursday will likely pose another damaging wind gust threat. It’s still too early for the exact location of where the strongest winds will be though.

It’s going to be hot and very humid in between the rounds of storms. The heat index on Thursday may be close to heat advisory criteria, reaching the low 100s for many of us. Dewpoints will remain in the low-to-mid 70s through Friday.

That is ahead of a frontal system that moves through on Saturday. This will bring us another rain and storm chance Saturday before drying us out a bit late this weekend and into next week.
