Isolated showers and storms Thursday ahead of a nice Friday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Thursday! A cold front will be moving through the region later today. The passing of this front will fire up another round of isolated-to-widely scattered showers and storms this afternoon. This front will also bring a drop in the humidity for your Friday, leading to a very nice end to the week. For today, rain chances won’t likely be widespread. These showers and storms will be hit or miss with a few very isolated heavy downpours possible.

Rain showers exit tonight as the aforementioned cold front sweeps to our south. We aren’t expecting a temperature drop behind this front, expect for cooler overnight lows. That’s because this front will drop our dewpoints as drier air moves into the region. This drier air will allow overnight lows to fall slightly below average, while the drier afternoon air will lead to warmer midday temperatures. Afternoon highs on Friday will be right at average on Friday before climbing into the upper 80s near 90 by Saturday.

Saturday morning looks fantastic across the region with temperatures dropping into the low 60s in many spots. The afternoon will feature a few rain chances for south-central Kentucky. If you plan on heading to any of the south-central Kentucky lakes, make sure you are prepared for a few showers and storms during the afternoon. Lexington and surrounding areas will likely stay dry and the temperatures will again be a little above average.

Rain and storm chances begin to increase on Sunday and will stay with us into next week. Heavy rain and even some stronger storms could be possible during this time, so make sure you are staying with us for the latest forecast.

Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team.
