New “Move Over” law effective Monday
LEXINGTON, KY (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A new law aimed at protecting disabled vehicles on Kentucky roadways is set to go into effect next Monday. The ‘Move Over Law’ mandates that drivers must move over a lane or slow down when approaching a disabled vehicle.
According to crash data from the Kentucky State Police, 32 people have been killed in accidents while leaving or approaching their cars from 2019 to this year. Additionally, 16 people lost their lives while changing their tires or working on their vehicles.
Signed into law back in April, this legislation also extends protections to first responders, highway crews, and tow truck operators. The goal of the ‘Move Over Law’ is to enhance safety and reduce the risk of accidents on the roadways for all drivers.
This new law underscores the importance of driver awareness and caution when encountering disabled vehicles and personnel working on the road, aiming to make Kentucky’s roads safer for everyone.
