Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Tuesday! We are tracking an incredible start to your day with temperatures falling into the low 50s for many spots. The Kentucky Mesonet Site in Harrison County near Cynthiana actually fell to 48°! You can say goodbye to the fall-like feel though. We are going to be warming back up into the upper 80s, possibly low 90s in spots later this afternoon. The humidity will be increasing late day as well, making it feel even hotter with heat indices reaching the mid-90s. It’s going to remain muggy overnight, with temperatures only falling into the low 70s for most.

Wednesday will be hot and steamy out there. Afternoon highs will reach the low 90s for most and it will continue to feel muggy. This heat and moisture will be fueling late day and overnight storms. Areas north and west of Lexington have a Level 2 Severe Risk for Wednesday through Wednesday night. The severe threat will be damaging wind gusts, large hail and tornadoes are not expected. There will be the potential for torrential downpours that may result in localized minor flooding as well.

The storms may linger into the morning our on your Fourth of July. It’s won’t likely be a complete washout on 4th but scattered-to-numerous rain and storms can be expected. There is a low end severe weather threat as well, but this threat will be isolated. Like Wednesday night, this will be a damaging wind gust threat. Heavy downpours will once again be possible. The timing of the rain and storms is still very much up in the air. We can’t say exactly if it will or won’t be raining in time for fireworks, but the chance of storms will again be scattered-to-numerous will some breaks expected.

A cold front will be pushing through the region late Friday night. This will fire up another round of storms Friday afternoon and evening. A few of these storms could be on the stronger end as well. This front will exit by Saturday and lead to improving conditions for the weekend. A few showers and a storm or two are possible early in the day on Saturday before everyone dries out as high pressure builds across the region. Temperatures will be right around average with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s over the weekend. The humidity won’t be as high as Wednesday through Friday either.
