Relief from the muggy conditions to the start the workweek

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 News Now) –  Happy Monday! After beneficial rain for many areas yesterday, we are tracking lower humidity to start your workweek. Many areas went nearly 2 weeks without any rain before the showers and thunderstorms on Sunday. The cold front that helped fire up those storms is exiting the region this morning and seasonably cooler and drier air is moving in. Afternoon highs today will struggle to reach the mid-80s under mostly sunny skies. The humidity will be noticeably more comfortable out there today. If you thought it felt muggy out there yesterday, you weren’t wrong. The dewpoint peaked at 75, the highest dewpoint Lexington as experienced so far this year. Thankfully, you don’t have to deal with any of that today. Comfortable conditions settle in as dewpoints will be in the 50s and low 60s for most.

Temperatures will be heating up again on Tuesday. Afternoon highs return to the upper 80s and low 90s. There is a low chance of a few storms in the afternoon hours, increasing a bit during the evening hours. Most locations, particularly east of I-75 will stay dry. There will be a cluster of storms in southern Indiana that will be weakening during your evening hours. Our storm chances on Tuesday evening really depend on if that cluster of storms holds together. If it does, then we will see some gusty thunderstorms moving through the region. If it weakens, many areas won’t see anything at all.

Rain and storm chances increase for everyone on Wednesday. It will be feeling warm and muggy outside of those storms, very similar to Sunday. A few of these storms could be strong-to-severe, with some heavy rain possible at times as well. This is a head of another cold front that will bring us another shot of seasonably comfortable conditions on Thursday.

The cooler temperatures only stick around briefly though. Afternoon highs on Friday and Saturday will return to the low 90s as we keep this pattern going into the weekend. Another chance of storms returns late Saturday into Sunday ahead of a cold front. There is the chance there could be stronger storms and heavy rain on Sunday, but again we are still too far out for specifics. This front will likely dry us out again into early next week.
