Early season sizzle continues

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Tuesday! We are tracking another hot and very humid day across central and eastern Kentucky. There will be another chance of pop-up showers and storms developing later this afternoon. However, like yesterday, these storms will be isolated and many areas will stay dry. Afternoon highs will peak in the low 90s, with a heat index approaching the upper 90s, possibly hitting 100 in spots. Hot and humid conditions are expected across Kentucky during the summer months, but this is very in the season to experience a streak 90+ degrees temperatures. It can be more difficult in mid-June to deal with an extended period of hot and humid conditions like we are experiencing because it is so early in the season. Take care of yourselves, and remember to check on your elderly friends and neighbors.
Temperatures may struggle to reach the low 90s on Wednesday because of additional mid-to-upper level clouds across the bluegrass region. This may knock our temperatures down a bit, into the upper 80s for some. The majority of the region will stay dry but a stray, very isolated shower or storm can’t completely be ruled out.
The heat is on Thursday through Saturday. The ridge of high pressure that will be bringing record warmth for the northeast, begins to build a bit further towards the south and west. This will bring warmer temperatures to our area. Afternoon highs on Friday and Saturday will reach the mid-90s for most of us, with upper 90s not out of the question. Daily record highs will be in reach both days as well.
Is there relief in sight? Yes, there is a least a little relief Sunday night into Monday. A weak frontal boundary will try to sweep through the region as the ridge of high pressure weakens. This will bring us the chance of showers and thunderstorms. This rain chance will be very beneficial thanks to the mainly dry pattern for the past week. This will also bring our temperatures a little closer to average.
