Hot and humid conditions expected all week

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Monday! It was warm and muggy out there this morning with some areas not even making it to the low 70s. The morning low temperature in Lexington was a staggering 76°. The heat and humidity will continue to build throughout the day. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the low 90s for most of the area. The more impactful thing today will be the high humidity. The muggy meter will be pushing the “Miserable” category at times, with the heat index climbing into the upper 90s near 100 at times. This added moisture will fuel the chance of isolated pop-up showers and storms later this afternoon and into the evening. These storms won’t be widespread, but I think anyone would take some rain to briefly cool things off.

The heat is expected to last the entire week and into the weekend. The humidity is expected to be at it’s worst early in the week, before some slightly drier, but hotter air is expected to arrive late week. Temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to remain in the low 90s for most areas and the heat index will peak around the upper 90s and low 100s. With the slightly drier air late week, many spots could climb into the mid-90s. Upper 90s aren’t out of the question either, especially if skies remain mostly clear.

When will we get a break from this hot and humid pattern? Possibly by the end of the weekend into early next week. A system bringing rain and storms could knock us out of the 90s, back into the 80s for most areas. Still warm, but not as hot as it is this week.
