Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW): Happy Primary Election Day! We are tracking another warm, summer-like day for your Tuesday. Enjoy it… Because storm chances will be ramping up Wednesday evening and will last into Memorial Day weekend. You’ll be able to find some dry time this weekend but there will still be rain and storms around, some of those storms could be strong-to-severe to end the weekend. For the short term though, temperatures will once again climb into the mid-80s on Tuesday. There is a small chance of a stray shower or storm this afternoon but most areas will stay dry.

Wednesday will start off on the dry side but there be isolated-to-widely scattered showers and storms trying to develop in the afternoon and early evening. The main severe threat will be moving in late Wednesday evening as storms will be likely dropping in out of the west. The main question is how far this line of storms chance stay organized as it drops south and eastward. Areas north and west of Lexington are included in a Level 2 Severe Risk, while areas south and east of Lexington are included in a Level 1 Severe Risk. The main threats will be damaging wind gusts and isolated large hail, while heavy downpours will also be possible.

Off and on rain showers and storms will linger through the weekend. The frontal system dropping in on Wednesday evening, will slowly move through the region on Thursday. This will keep scattered-to-widespread shower and storm chances around for Thursday. Another system will be moving through the region on Friday, increasing rain chances once again.

Looking ahead at Memorial Day weekend there will be rain and storm chances around. The driest day of the weekend will likely be Saturday. Rain and storm chances will likely increase later in the day on Sunday into Sunday night. The Storm Prediction Center is already highlighting areas west of Lexington and the I-75 corridor for the risk of strong-to-severe storms on Sunday.

On top of the severe weather threat, heavy rain could become a concern as well. A widespread 2-3″ of rain is expected through Memorial Day, with isolated heavier amounts possible.
