Local Lex Market holds May Block Party
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Local Lex Market held its May block party on Sunday.
The event is part of a series of block parties the business hosts on the first Sunday of every month starting in April until October.
“Just to understand that they have to shop local and support local and very small businesses,” said owner Merritt Monroy. “We’re not Walmart, we’re not Target but you know we’re surviving and we’re trying to start our business. So we’ve been doing the business and trying to remain steady in it.”
The block party began at 10 a.m. and had over 35 local makers, artists, vendor’s, local food trucks, and coffee.
“Well of course we need locally crafted and locally sourced stuff,” said vendor Derek Bradley. “That’s great for the community and just awesome for the economy.”
Vendors say events like this are important to help promote local artists.
“But no it’s definitely good for the community, I’ve been amazed at how many friends and family I’ve seen up here,” said Grant.
The event wrapped up at 4 p.m.
