Coach Cal’s home up for sale

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – With former UK Men’s Basketball Coach John Calipari moving to Arkansas, his home here in Lexington is on the market.

Realtor Melinda Drake says this house means so much to the Calipari’s.

“Well you know it’s been their home since they’ve moved here and they’ve got lots of great memories,” said Drake.

John Calipari and his wife, Ellen, moved into the home in 2009 after Cal left Memphis to come to UK.

The home, located on Richmond Road, is 9,615 square feet and has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

The house sits on 1.2 acres with a three car garage, plus many other features.

“The Calipari’s have probably added at least 1 million dollars worth of things that they’ve done to the house since they’ve been here,” said Drake. “They’ve installed a saltwater heated swimming pool, a pool house, a changing room and a half court basketball court.”

If you’re a UK Men’s Basketball fan, you might be familiar with some of the interior of the home, as it has been the scene of many events, including NCAA tournament watch parties, as players gathered there to find out where they’d play.

The asking price of such a home? Nearly $4 million, which is lower than the appraisal price.

“But he’s just like that’s not where the heart is, it’s not trying to make a ton of money off of the home,” said Drake. “He was the one who said to go under for.”

There has already been some interest in former coach’s home.
