Storm chances and warm temperatures continue mid-week

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Happy Wednesday! We are tracking rain out there to start your day. Rain and storms will stick around through the first part of the day before we start to see clearing skies for the afternoon. There is a low-end risk of a few isolated strong-to-severe storms during the afternoon, but widespread strong storms are not expected. There are many factors limiting the second wave of storms from firing up so I am expecting most areas to stay dry. Temperatures will climb into the upper 70s for most areas, just a few degrees cooler than earlier in the week.

We clear the skies out tonight and that will lead to a very warm Thursday. Temperatures will climb into the low-to-mid 80s with mostly sunny skies. The daytime looks dry for Thursday but storm chances will increase late Thursday evening into the overnight hours.

A large cluster of storms will likely fire up over eastern Missouri and Illinois during the day on Thursday. This line of storms will be moving east through the day and evening hours, eventually moving into our area late Thursday evening. The exact timing is still up in the air, but we are expecting strong-to-severe storms to move through during the evening and overnight. Damaging wind gusts and torrential downpours will be the main threats with that line of storms.

Showers will be with us early in the day on Friday but the bigger headline will be cooler air moving in behind the passing cold front. Friday will still be in the upper 60s but the coolest air will arrive later in the weekend. Overnight lows in the upper 30s will be possible both Saturday and Sunday night. We are expecting mainly dry conditions for the weekend, with a few showers possible Sunday in far southern Kentucky.
