J-turn safety improvement project in Knox Co. to begin Wednesday, May 9

MANCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ)- Work is ready to begin on a J-turn safety improvement project at the intersection of U.S. 25E and KY 233 in Knox County.

One lane will remain open in each direction on U.S. 25E beginning Wednesday, May 9. The project is expected to end on Wednesday, June 20.

The project will be adding turning lanes along with installing a J-turn intersection while eliminating the traffic signals at this location.

The J-turn prohibits a left-turn and requires drivers to turn right onto the main road and then make a U-turn maneuver at a one-way directional median. Left-turns fro, the main road approaches are used in a manner similar to left-turns at a conventional intersection and are unaffected.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet asks drivers to be aware of the work zone, expect delays and to use safe driving habits when driving through the area.

The date and time could be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Drivers can access travel and traffic conditions at http://goky.ky.gov or contribute their own reports at www.waze.com or via the Waze mobile app.
